Collection analysis - 03 FALL RTW

Color analysis
In this collection , the inspiration is Marilyn Monroe which is the seductive spirit of film icons showing the sensual, flirtatious feeling . This collection , D&G wanted to show such feeling .
But I have another idea about this collection. I thnk the colorful designs of the outfits are to cheer people up! After the izzue of 911, not only the American, everyone in the World are upset about it. So I think the duo carried up this mission to cheer people up through the colourful design.

Besides details like a form fitting black satin mini dress opens the show worn with an oversized nylon neon orange parka or Pinstriped tailored suits offer new proportions with a transformable jacket that unbuttons into a vest , D&G also use color to show the spirit .
Futhermore, for color used in 03 Fall RTW , Contrast is key. "Techno nylon pants are paired with romantic fringed embroidered flapper tops , floral silk flirty dresses are worn under oversized nylon parkas with brightly colored strap details . Optical prints in skirts , tops and dresses are contrasted with brightly colored fake fur jackets trimmed in sable or mink . Vivid primary colors punctuate the strong presence of black , a perfectly tailored canary yellow belted coat worn with solid black hose and optical print shoes is one of the highlights of this fresh use of color and contrast" .

Although some outfits are colourful, there are still many outfits using black color (Achromatic Scheme), black still is the designers' favour!

Dolce & Gabbana present a collection steeped in the traditions of the rustic Sicilian lifestyle. The legend is told in the Sicilian town of S. Alfio that there is a chestnut-tree which is 3000 years old and that beneath its inviting branches Queen Juana of Aragon and her one hundred knights took refuge, surprised during her journey by a storm. And it is below these centuries-old branches that the Dolce & Gabbana woman looks for her roots, once again finds her nobility, rests and relaxes in the safety of old certainties.

Collection analysis - 01 FALL RTW

Romance was in the air at Dolce & Gabbana. But needless to say, the Italian duo's idea of gracious country life is far from sedate. From a wooden farmhouse emerged glamorous desert bohemians clad in extra-long hip-hugging, double-belted distressed leather pants, billowy striped tops and dangling fox tails. The vintage feeling continued with fitted corduroy trousers and oversize blazers, flea-market suede and fur jackets, and tattered blue jeans. Dolce and Gabbana clearly had a blast mixing the old and the new; slouchy pants and oversize hobo sweaters and scarves alternated with sheer floral camisoles, sharp military coats with multiple diamanté buckles, Wild West fringed bags and tall prairie boots.

Color Analysis

- After the inspiration of Middle East last year, the duo may want to take a rest, so they want to go to the country. So in 2001, the inspiration is country life.
- Fall collection of 2001 was come from the ideas of gracious but bohemian country life.
- Black, white, beige, light brown, Burgundy red and the forgettable furs…all of them to form a life style of rural area.

- The shocking pink, imply the unruly blast of color, maybe not only for the color, also the enthusiasm in our life.

- Still, the duo used low value hues to construct their ideal colors of country life. Not as varied as last year's color, this year is full of gracious familiarity with a little bit novelty.

Collection analysis - 00 FALL RTW

DazzleInspired by the Middle East, the duo's collection featured everything from gold tapestry-printed dresses to silver palazzo pants to glimmering, striped Lurex T-shirts. Even their interpretation of the current suit craze was appropriately glitzy: there were purple velvet knicker-and-jacket combos and three-piece corduroy riding ensembles with rhinestone-covered berets. How to top off the look? Try a patchwork shearling coat, a colorfully decorated fur or a shiny croc jacket with leopard-print lining and matching hat.If you need still more flash, you can always go for the hoop earrings, bright tights and flower-appliquéd shoes.

Color Analysis

The main color tone of this collection is white-gold, silver, silver-purple, violet, pink, dark and grass green, coral, light blue and mixing with the sand like colour ( brown, sandy beige …) & the colorful decorated furs. Colorful clothing, sand and the feeling of strangeness. Obviously the duo is inspired by the Middle East culture, so they uses a variety of hue to mold outfits into dazzle.

- Use of many hue

-Use of many patterns

- Use of black color

As in Middle East, not all clothing is colorful, for some countries, women are not allowed to wear colourful clothing. They just can wear black clothing. In this collection, you can also find the black outfits. This show the duo can emerge the Middle East culture in an all around way.

History about Dolice & Gabbana

--Designer: Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana born in 1958 and 1962. Domenico Dolce (Sicily)Stefano Gabbana (Venice)
--The Italian designers came together in 1982 and were fobbed off early on as 'too young' of all things.
--In 1982, the first D&G studio was opened, but it wasn't until 1985 until people took notice of the fashion house.
--At the Milano Collezioni fashion show in October of that year, Dolce and Gabbana were recognised as a promising new talent.
--A year later, 1986 the pair launched their first self-produced collection - real woman.
--In October of 1988, Dolce & Gabbana signed an agreement with Dolce Saverio, a clothing company owned by Domenico Dolce's family. This kick started the labels ready-to-wear range
--The late 80s saw D&G clothes travel to Japan, where they showcased the label in Tokyo for the first time. Then came New York and the flood-gates to prosperity were opened.
--They opened a new showroom in New York (532 Broadway) and signed an agreement with the Genny group to produce the Complice range for four years.
--In 1993, Dolce & Gabbana designed 1500 costumes for Madonna's world tour of 'The Girlie Show', which brought them even more recognition than they expected.
--In the same year, 1993, "Dolce & Gabbana Parfum" fragrance was awarded the international prize as the best feminine fragrance of the year, by the Perfume Academy.
--In 1996, for the first time in history, the French award - "Oscar des Parfums" - is given to an Italian fragrance: Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme.
--By 1998 the label was spinning serious money.
--In May of that year launched the new D&G Eyewear collection.

--A year later, 1999, the D&G Company came full circle, and eventually bought out its parent company by taking over 51 per cent of Dolce Saverio S.p.A., which would be renamed Dolce & Gabbana Industria S.p.A.
--The company exclusively designed clothes and accessories for Whitney Houston's World Tour in 1999.
--D&G Time, producing designer watches, was launched in early 2000.
--For Madonna's "Music" album, Dolce and Gabbana were asked to go one step further than just dressing her and her ensemble and were asked to create an entire environment. It may sound daunting, but the Italian lads were up to the task and so transformed New York's legendary Roseland Ballroom and London's Brixton Academy into what will be forever known as cyber-ranches.
--By 2005 their turnover was €750 million.

Domenico Dolce grew up in Sicily while Stefano Gabbana grew up in Milan. Although they come from different parts of Italy, they both claim their principal influence is the Mediterranean. Their creative collection combines the inspirations from their own heritages, the mythology of old Italy, as well as the drama of cinema in Italy. Therefore, the styles they produce are a traditional ones mainly. Sometimes, it is shown in the mystical sensuality of a masked model who seems like Venus from the rustic Sicilian countryside. Basically, the elements of fantasy, magic, and sex dominate their ideas.

Where is Sicily?

Sicily (Italian and Sicilian: Sicilia) is an autonomous region of Italy. Of all the regions of Italy, Sicily covers the largest land area at 25,708 km² and currently has just over five million inhabitants. It is also the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, several much smaller islands surrounding it are also considered to be part of Sicily. Along with Sardinia, the island is officially classified as a region of Insular Italy.

Throughout much of its history, Sicily has been considered a crucial strategic location due in large part to its importance for Mediterranean trade routes.
The area was highly regarded as part of Magna Graecia, with Cicero describing Siracusa as the greatest and most beautiful city of all Ancient Greece.

For the impression of Sicilian culture , we can find that some collections contain the elements of Sicily. For example the colourful design and the cutting. And also Stefano Gabbana grew up in Milan. So the collections are full of characteristic feeling but also masterful and popularized design.
